Service no.2 (Exercise Kukri) official no.2 knife of the Gurkha Contingent, Singapore Police Force

The Gurkha Contingent or “GC” is a highly trained and extremely skilled security force of the Singapore national Police. They are selected for their display of strong discipline and dedication. They are an elite force specializing in protection for dignitaries, national and vip events, as well as a formidable anti-terrorist group. After Singapore gained independence, the Gurkha Contingent helped secure the independence of the new country. Because there was no Nepali community in Singapore and due to the ironclad discipline of the Gurkhas, they were the perfect police force. Also because they were seen as impartial by both the Chinese and Malay communities they fitted perfectly in the vaccum and helped quell racial riots and helped stabilize the new country, and remain a integral part of Singapore’s history.

Singaporean Police Force Gurkha Contingent (SPFGC) officials stationed in BGC (British Gurkhas Nepal) in Nepal selected this exact model for the year 2009 as the No.2 service kukri which continues till today.

While the SPFGC Service no.1 (ceremonial) version is the dress knife seen in officer’s uniform, this "Service no.2 (Exercise Kukri)" is the blade that is carried for training/exercise and when undertaking special missions and even in conflicts should it happen. Made in the Chainpure style, this blade, with it’s closed Cho notch is quite different from its counterpart.

The 11 inch long blade, unpolished from tip to ricasso forged in the slimmer “ChainPure” village style. This version has a wooden butt with an ace-shaped keeper to secure the end of the tang. The shape of the handle is very secure in the hand. Because the blade has not been polished (matt) it retains the temper of the original forging, as well as being non-reflective, for tactical purposes.

The Gurkha Jungle also comes with two small accompanying knives; KARDA; small utility knife and CHAKMAK; sharpener. Both the Karda and Chakmak are unpolished and made with wooden handle like the mother blade. This light and easy to wield blade is favorite amongst the officers, and is a fantastic field/fight Kukri.
